Moses Goes To School

Moses Goes To School is a children's book written by Isaac Millman. It is the story of a young boy named Moses who goes to a school for the deaf. Some of the students in the school are completely deaf, or hard of hearing. The students come from many different countries.
The teacher, Mr. Samuels, has fun interactive activities for his classroom. One morning he brings in a boom box. The children wonder why. Later in the day, he writes the words to "Take Me Out To The Ballpark" on the board. The children get excited, and he turns the music up so loud that the vibrations can be felt. They sign the words of the song together.
Another activity they do is in the computer room. There are computers that help the student transfer their thoughts from ASL to our readable english. Each of the students has a pen pal, and they write a letter in pencil first to them. Some necessary words are left out of sentences, for example, "I'm happy because play with dog." Once the student types the letter into the computer it helps to transfer the ASL sentence into proper english... " I'm happy because I can play with my dog."
I thought it was a good book to read for not only students, but for teacher as well. Mr. Samuels demonstrated that teachers need to be interactive, energetic, and creative in teaching any student, but especially students with special needs.
